A day after Shoaib Malik and Sana Javed announced their marriage, Sania Mirza’s father has announced that his daughter has indeed formally split with the Pakistani cricketer.

Imran Mirza had initially confirmed the splitbut told Indian media on Saturday that his daughter had finalised her divorce with Shoaib Malik a ‘few months ago’.

He added that his daughter had always tried to keep her personal life’s details away from the public eye and so the divorce was not publicly announced when it happened.

Mirza also called upon fans and the general public to respect Sania’s privacy at this ‘sensitive’ time and not pay heed to rumours.

While Malik had made his new marriage official, he had not clearly stated if he had split up with his previous wife, Sania, or not.

Sania Mirza’s Instagram post in January had led to speculation that all might not be right in her personal life.

“Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard” the post had read.

“When something disturbs the peace of your heart, let it go,” she had written in another psot.

Rumours about their split had been doing rounds since 2022 but had been silenced for a brief period after the couple shot together for the show, ‘The Mirza Malik Show’, and Malik expressed that he missed his wife during Eid.
