Cricketers have a sense of humour whether on or off the field. A similar kind of situation occurred when a taxi driver in New York failed to recognise two Australian cricketers Glen Maxwell and Adam Zampa when they hop in.

It was in 2016 when Maxwell while holding a selfie stick and Zampa called a taxi to reach Indian Square, a neighbourhood centered on Newark Avenue, between Tonnele Avenue and JFK Boulevard. They wanted to go for a rap battle.

Despite being a cricket fan the taxi driver failed to recognise the two stars.

It was the all-rounder cricketer who started the conversation by asking the driver whether he knew anything about cricket. The driver, who belonged to Tibet, replied in affirmative.

“Cricket is my favourite game,” said the driver who came from India where the game is a craze for many people in the 1.4 billion people nation. Since the driver didn’t see who their passengers were on the day, he asked them: “Where are you from.”

Coincidentally, the driver labelled Australia as the best team in the world. He knew about Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, and Steve Smith. He said late cricketer Andrew Symonds was his favourite player.

While driving the taxi, he said that Maxwell was also a good cricketer. The 35-year-old cricketer tried to remind of his famous reverse sweep cricket shot, to which, the driver said he knew about it.

But the taxicab confession reached its climax when Maxwell said that he was a multi-foreign player. He was surprised and asked for a picture with him.

“Whenever you came out with the bat, everyone gets excited,” the driver told the Melbourne Stars skipper. Zampa took the picture of the driver and his fellow teammate after reaching the destination.
