Snowfall in Punjab plains? Met clarifies
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and snowfall in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan starting from tomorrow. Dense fog is expected in the plain areas of the country.
According to the advisory, the said areas will experience downpours and snowfall over mountains on the 13th, 16th, and 17th of January.
However, the Met Office has refuted the claims, circulating on social media, about snowfall in the plains of Punjab.
“Rumours on social media regarding snowfall in the plains of Punjab are baseless. The public is requested to ignore fake news,” stated the advisory in its footnote.
The Met said, though, frost is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, including Islamabad and Kashmir.
The cold wave is expected to persist across the country until next week, as the PMD forecasts that most parts of the country will experience chilly and dry weather during this time.
Dense foggy conditions are also likely to prevail in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
