The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecasted snowfall in Murree and surrounding areas beginning Tuesday.

It would be the season’s first snowfall and a sizeable number of tourists area expected at the hill station next week.

A spokesperson of PDMA said that the weather in Murree, Gilyat, and other areas is expected to remain cold and dry, with temperatures declining further after rain and snowfall on Monday and Wednesday.

The snowfall will begin on Tuesday morning, the NDMA said.

Furthermore, the advisory stated that the weather will remain cloudy and cold on Tuesday.

The authorities in Muree are preparing to deal with the influx of local tourists, who usually enter the city in their cars.

For two years, the focus has been on preventing a repeat of the January 2022 disaster when at least 22 people lost their lives after being stranded in a snowstorm on the roads around Murree.

The administration of Murree, set up three facilitation centres for tourists last week. The number has now been increased to 13.

The tragedy was attributed to the negligence of local authorities who allowed over 13,000 vehicles into Murree, exceeding its capacity of 4,000.
