Booms, shakes felt in New York’s Roosevelt Island: report
Firefighters rushed to New York City’s Roosevelt Island on Tuesday after ‘three booms and shakes’ were felt in the area, Daily Mail Online reported.
They were called to the 580 block of Main Street, south of the Roosevelt Island Bridge & Tram, officials told the news outlet. Footage showed emergency service, fire trucks, and police vehicles at the scene.
According to residents, they woke up to at least “three instances of a boom and a shake”. They added that the third vibration was “felt further away”.
Rescuers also reported feeling vibrations in Roosevelt Island, Manhattan and Queens. They purportedly also asked the energy firm Con Edison to address power outages at several buildings.
“It was very loud,” one island resident said, “the walls shook, and you could hear my windows rattling.”
The UK based news outlet added that firefighters were probing manhole fires as they tried to find the source of the tremors.
