How a witty Indian student played on Seema Haider’s name

In the past Aaj News used a similar double entendre when 'Seema' crossed the 'border'

A witty Indian student came up with a clever answer about geography by playing on the name of Seema Haider, the Pakistani woman who entered India illegally earlier this year to unite with an Indian man she had met online.

Seema Haider made headlines in July 2023 when she was found living with an Indian man in the Greater Noida area after illegally crossing into the country in May 2023.

The word ‘seema’ means ‘border’ in Hindi and Urdu. Back in July when the case was first reported, Aaj News Urdu website used the double entendre by coining the sentence “Pakistan ki seema laangany wali Khatoon” (Seema was a woman who had brazenly jumped the border of Pakistan).

Now an Indian student has capitalized on the Hindi meaning of Seema Haider’s name.

Pupils in a school examination were asked to name the border between India and Pakistan and provide its estimated length.

Bharat aur Pakistan ke beech mein kaunsi seema hai, lambai batao? [What is the border between India and Pakistan called? Also, tell its length?],” was the question of a political science paper in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district school.

The witty student in question answered: “Dono deshon ke beech Seema Haider hai. Uski lambai 5 foot 6 inch hai. Dono deshon ke beech isko lekar ladai hai [Seema Haider is the name of the border between the two nations. The border is 5 foot 6 inches tall. The countries are fighting because of it].”

The picture of the answer sheet went viral on social media as many Indian users re-shared it on different platforms.

However, some users suggested that the thought was not original and one man in replies described the respondent as “a student of WhatsApp Univeristy.”
