The year 2023 was a significant period for the USB Type-C which evolved manifolds with the iPhone embracing it along with the introduction of GaN chargers and USB-C Power Delivery chargers.

For long, Apple opted to stick with its proprietary Lightning connector for its smartphone. Every Apple phone since 2012 has used the Lightning port.

However, the company transitioned from its Lightning port to USB-C port in the iPhone 15 model. Apple gradually added USB-C ports to its other devices over the past few years. The company was the first to put USB-C on a laptop in 2015. Then Apple iPads started to carry USB-C.

With the transition, everyone can use this universal port to recharge and transfer data across multiple devices.

It is pertinent to mention that Android devices have long been coming with USB-C ports for charging and transferring data.

The launching of a USB-C dongle that heals mosquito bites using heat was another addition to the multiple fronts, the type has been used.

The device, developed by German company Kamedi, plugs into your phone and uses a metal surface to generate heat that can soothe and heal insect, horsefly, wasp and mosquito stings.

Kamedi claimed that a study published in the Swedish journal Acta Dermato-Venereologica supported the effectiveness of its device. With over 12,000 treatments on 1,700 individuals, the findings affirmed a significant reduction in itch and pain.

In 2023, most of the devices have adopted the USB-C standard including laptops, earbuds and notepads.

However, some laptops still deploy their cumbersome AC power brick and barrel-shaped DC connector.

Compared with the AC power brick, USB-C chargers are smaller and more convenient than older chargers and work with multiple and varied devices.

The introduction of the ports in most of the gadgets made way for the USB Type-C PD chargers that offer more than 100 watts of power.

Framework, an American laptop computer manufacturer, June this year announced launching PD chargers that could provide up to 240 watts of power, enough for almost all gaming notebooks.

PD stands for power delivery. The technology enables your device to take on more power in a shorter amount of time, which translates to superfast charging

The year also witnessed the rise of GaN chargers that provide a higher voltage over a longer period than silicon chargers can. They boast higher efficiency and better heat resistance.

Several global companies including China’s UGREEN launched a 300W GaN charger with five ports to charge multiple gadgets simultaneously.

The device has four USB-C ports and one USB-A port. The most powerful port is able to deliver as much as 140W via the PowerDelivery 3.1 spec, enough to fast charge a modern 16-inch MacBook Pro, even with four other devices being charged concurrently.
