The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf challenged the alleged seizure of nomination papers by police in the Lahore High Court on Thursday.

The petition, which was filed by Umair Niazi, has made inspector general of police and other parties in the case.

Preventing people from contesting the election is a violation of the Constitution, it said, and added that the court should order action against those who stole the nomination papers.

The party demanded that the court should stop all leaders from “harassing”.

PTI has also decided to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan over the alleged seizure of some of their leader’s nomination papers and the lack of a level playing field.

PTI leader Umair Niazi’s father has accused Mianwali’s DSP of confiscating nomination papers that he had acquired for himself and his son.

Separately, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan has claimed nomination papers were also taken away from former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s secretary.

Moreover, PTI leader Taimur Ali Jhagra raised a similar issue in an interview with Aaj News on Wednesday. “We are not getting a level playing field,” he said.

In the recent past, the PPP has claimed that the bureaucracy was favouring the PML-N in Punjab and that their party was not getting the opportunity to run an election campaign.
