Lawyer bodies have no business issuing statements agains CEC: Murtaza
Senior lawyer and Jamiat-e-Ulema’s Senator Kamran Murtaza said that lawyers bodies had no business issuing statements against the chief election commissioner and the matter should be probed.
Speaking in Faisla Aap Ka on Aaj News, Senator Kamran Murtaza said that he belonged to the groups that are currently holding offices in both the Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association and had been surprised by the statements issued against the chief election commissioner.
Murtaza said that he had questioned how the statement was issued without notice to members but had not received a positive response.
He said that he would hold a meeting with the president of the SCBA when the latter returned from Umra.
He said that both bodies were linked to courts and had no business issuing policy statements linked to the ECP.
Asked if the statements were a result of a personal dispute between Ahsan Bhoon and Azam Nazeer Tarar, Murtaza said personal disputes rarely lead to such massive steps.
He said that even Maulana Fazal ur Rehman was cautious about the statements and had inquired about them from him.
Murtaza added that a probe was underway to find who was behind the statement.
Former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the lawyer bodies had taken an extreme position and the timing of their statements was questionable.
