The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a strongly worded letter against betting company advertisements in the first test match between Pakistan and Australia earlier this month.

The letter has been sent to the Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan Television, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority as well all ministries.

It says that violations were reported during the first test match despite clear instructions against airing any advertisements of any betting companies or surrogate companies.

The letter further adds that ‘the concerned’ must ensure compliance with the ministry instructions and investigate how this lapse took place.

It also says that PTV has been told to take up the matter with parent companies and terminate the agreement if ad placement guidelines are not followed.

Additionally, the letter has also advised the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to stop all illegal betting, gambling, and casino companies in Pakistan and a special wing should be formed to monitor such issues.

A scandal emerged during this year’s Pakistan Super League when betting companies. The furour had led to a ban on betting ads and some players had later refused sponsorships from the companies as well.
