ECP barred from taking action against PTI

PHC adjourns case till December 21

The Peshawar High Court barred on Tuesday the Election Commission of Pakistan from taking against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on matters related to the intra-party election and the election symbol.

A two-judge bench of the court comprising Justice Attique Shah and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah gave the decision while hearing PTI’s petitions against the polls overseer’s notices on the intra-party elections and the election symbol.

An ECP representative informed the court that the country’s top electoral authority would submit their reply to the court on Tuesday (today).

To this, the court ordered the ECP to don’t take action against the PTI till December 21 and adjourned the hearing of the case till Thursday.

On Monday, a five-member bench of the ECP reserved its decision on the pleas against the PTI’s intra-party elections which saw Barrister Gohar Khan succeeding Imran Khan as the party chairman.

As many as 13 petitions have been filed against the party’s intra-party polls whereas the Hum Awam Pakistan Party has filed a plea in the ECP for the symbol of bat.

Zafar told reporters that among the 14 individuals who had filed the plea with the ECP, none had renewed their membership which had expired due to non-payment of the required fee.

Meanwhile, Babar stated that the PTI attempted to create the perception that the petitioners were not affiliated with the party.
