SC rejects review petition related to delimitation in Balochistan

Says constituencies cannot be changed after release of election schedule

The Supreme Court rejected on Tuesday a review petition pertaining to the delimitation of the PB-12 in Balochistan, ruling that constituencies cannot be changed after the release of election schedule.

A three-member bench led by acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Tariq Masood and comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah announced the decision on a petition filed by Amir Khan against the Balochistan High Court decision.

At the hearing, the acting CJP said that there was some stability in the country after the release of election schedule. He added that announcement of election date was not something ordinary.

The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that a “wrong” decision was announced related to the delimitation. To this, Justice Shah said that nothing can be done as the election programme has been released. The election process would be affected if decisions were made on individual applications, he added.

The SC judge added that the court would not disturb the date of February 8 for general elections date for such petitions. He ordered the respondent to give statement if they want delay in polls. The court would not election be derailed, the judge said.

Justice Minallah said that there should not be a delay in elections.

Later, the court rejected the review petition.
