PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat released from Kot Lakhpat jail after court orders
PTI Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat was released from Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore on Monday after the Lahore High Court approved the party’s petition against his detention.
“We will contest elections with all of our strength. I was mistreated during my detention on the orders of Maryam Nawaz,” he told the media in a formal conversation after his release from the prison facility.
Earlier, the LHC ordered the release of Marwat while hearing a petition against his arrest.
At the hearing, the government submitted reply to the court in a case against the arrest of Marwat. In response, advocate Mohsin Abbas said that the petitioner should approach the relevant forum against the detention.
Marwat was arrested under under 3-MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) on December 14. Video footage showed lawyers trying to rescue him as policemen dragged him to the police vehicle.
The government said that the detention order was given by the deputy commissioner and urged the court to reject the petition against the detention.
After the hearing, the court ordered release of Marwat.
