Pakistan has condemned the terrorist attack at the Rask police headquarters in the southeastern region of Iran, which killed 11 Iranian officials and wounded several others.

“We extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on Sunday. “Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the government and brotherly people of Iran in this hour of unspeakable tragedy.”

The terrorist group had claimed responsibility for the overnight attack in Rask, a small city in the country’s Sistan-Baluchistan province, according to Iranian media.

Several attackers were also killed in a gun battle with the security forces.

Similar attacks have previously taken place in the recent past. In July, four policemen were killed while on patrol.

In May, five Iranian border guards died in clashes with an armed group in Saravan, southeast of Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan-Baluchestan.

Pakistan, which itself has been battling an uptick in militancy, said: “Terrorism is a threat to regional as well as global peace and security and it needs to be confronted by all means including through bilateral and regional co-operation.”
