Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir commended Pakistani-American businessman Tanweer Ahmed who donated $9 million towards building an IT Tower at Islamabad’s National University of Science and Technology (NUST), the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement

COAS Munir, who is on a US visit, interacted with the Pakistani overseas community in a reception hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan, it added.

“He met Tanweer Ahmed who graciously donated $ 9 million to NUST in the field of IT development in Pakistan. COAS appreciated him and said Pakistan is proud of heroes like him,” according to the ISPR.

COAS Munir appreciated the positive role being played by the Pakistani overseas community towards the country’s progress and development.

During the interaction, topics of varying dimensions were discussed and the army chief appreciated the efforts of the Pakistani Diaspora. He also welcomed and encouraged the diaspora to invest through SIFC which is already yielding success in various dimensions.

“Pakistani diaspora anywhere around the world is held in high regard as they are ambassadors of Pakistan and contribute significantly to Pakistan in varying domains,” COAS Munir said.

During the visit, COAS Munir called on key US government and military officials during his ongoing visit to the US including, Antony Blinken, the secretary of state, General Llyod J Austin (retd), the secretary of defence, Victoria Nuland, the deputy secretary of state, Jonathan Finer, the deputy national security adviser and General Charles Q Brown, the chairman of joint chiefs of staff.

While reiterating Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue, the army chief shared “deep concerns” over the plight of the innocent civilians who “are being brutally targeted and are not being provided with sufficient humanitarian relief.”

He urged United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to mobilise the international community for immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza to prevent the unfolding human tragedy.

He highlighted that “enduring solution to the issue lies in two-state solution” during a meeting at the UN Headquarters, New York, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Saturday.
