Renowned Urdu poet Jaun Elia’s 92nd birth anniversary is being celebrated among poetry lovers today (Thursday).

Syed Hussain Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi aka Jaun Elia was born in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh in 1931 and later migrated to Pakistan in 1957 and settled in Karachi.

Alongside versification, he played many roles such as philosopher, biographer, and scholar to build strength in society with his pen.

His famous poetry collections include Shayed, Ya’ni, Gumaan, Lekan, Ramooz and Goya.

Jaun Elia’s first poetic collection Shayad (Perhaps) came to the surface in 1990 when the major part of his life had passed. Despite the delay in the publication of the collection, he became very popular and famous in the mushairas held at home and abroad.

Jaun’s poetry is still alive in the modern world and keeps the young generation intact to Urdu literature.

The acknowledgement of Jaun Elia’s greatness was made in his life; although the importance of Jaun’s creative ability is being admitted in the present time.

He was also awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance for his literary services.
