Zardari presents plan to bring Tajikistan’s water to Balochistan
Former president Asif Ali Zardari has presented a plan to make Balochistan’s soil fertile by brining river water from Tajikistan.
“I have already spoken to Tajik president. As per my plan, water that comes to Gilgit-Baltistan river through China, will then be supplied to Balochistan,” he told Asma Shirazi during his interview on Faisla Aap Ka on Monday.
Showing a map of the supposed plan to Shirazi, he said that it was his dream to fulfill the water needs of the province.
“I do not have projects; I have dreams,” he added.
According to Zardari, Balochistan had more land for agriculture compared to Punjab and Sindh.
However, he added that Balochistan’s water shortage cannot be sorted out with a reservoir and ‘natural’ water would have to be brought.
Zardari also added that soil that flows downhill from the mountains in Balochistan, locally known as ‘Bhal’, solidifies on the ground to make it more fertile.
He added that once Balochistan’s water problem is fixed, the province would be able to produce super fine cotton crops.
The former president said that it would be a major boost for an agrarian economy.
He added, with confidence, that it would take only two years for the project to materialise.
