In a landmark move, women will get designated sections in mosques under the Sindh government control.

Caretaker Sindh Minister for Religious Affairs Omer Soomro presided over a meeting to discuss the issue of women’s sections in mosques.

The minister ordered that the Auqaf Religious Affairs Zakat & Ushr Department must demarcate women-only sections at 77 mosques being supervised by it.

To aware women on this move, campaigns will also conducted in English, Urdu, Sindhi, and Gujarati languages.

Women in Pakistan go to certain mosques that have designated sections for women. However, they don’t hold conversations led by a woman. In Ramadan, women follow a male prayer leader while offering tarawih inside their separate prayer area.

Only a handful of mosques in the country have designated areas for women.

The meeting under Somroo also held deliberation on the registration of mosques and madrassas.
