The district administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar gave conditional permission to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Tuesday to hold a workers convention tomorrow (Wednesday) in the city.

The party will not be allowed to raise slogans against the state, any group or party, a statement by the district administration said.

The organisers of the convention will be responsible for taking security measures, while the workers will not be allowed to block any road during the gathering, it added.

The organisers will also be required to provide a video of the convention to the police.

The district administration said that the no-objection certificate would be canceled if the rules and regulations were violated at any time.

The former ruling party held its first workers convention on November 17 in KP’s Charsadda district since the May 9 riots after which a crackdown was initiated against the party workers and leaders.

PTI Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat participated in the convention held at former PTI MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan’s hujra. The convention attracted hundreds of PTI workers.

The party went on to hold multiple such gatherings which were mainly led by Marwat, however, he was among party workers named in the first information reports registered for organising workers conventions in Mardan and Swabi.

Last month, a PTI worker sustained bullet injuries when the party supporters going to participate in a workers’ convention allegedly clashed with police in the Chukiatan area of Upper Dir district.

The PTI workers were arriving at the site to participate in the workers’ convention in Sahibabad on November 25.

However, the district administration imposed Section 144–under which the gathering of more than five people is banned–in the district and blocked roads leading to the site of the gathering.
