Maryam Nawaz reacts to Imran Khan’s new claim about May 9 violence
PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz took a dig at PTI founder Imran Khan who blamed her father Nawaz Sharif for the May 9 violence.
“It means that the leaders and workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf were taking instructions from Nawaz Sharif on May 9,” she wrote on X while reacting to the former prime minister’s claims.
In a first exchange with reporters since his arrest on August 5, Khan claimed the May 9 violence was part of the London plan. “You could review the CCTV footage. It will tell you who led them in [the Lahore Corp Commander House],” he said.
The former chairman of PTI said that the ‘London Plan’ was meant to bring back Sharif and throw ‘us’ in jails.
“Earlier, he [Khan] used to say that the May 9 attacks were not carried out by me, but by my workers. Today, he says that May 9 was done by Nawaz Sharif,” the PML-N chief organiser said.
Violent clashes broke out across Pakistan after the former prime minister was arrested at the Islamabad High Court on May 9.
The protests were held in remote as well as in major cities as the party workers were agitated due to their leader’s arrest, as Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad summoned the armed forces to ensure law and order.
Army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore came under attack during the protest by PTI workers.
