Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Khan Marwat was among party workers named in the first information reports registered for organising a workers convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan and Swabi on Saturday.

An FIR was registered at the Mardan’s Jabbar police station in which 21 local PTI leaders and more than 100 workers were booked for violation of Section 144.

Other than Marwat, the reported nominated former MPAs Iftikhar Ali Mashwani, Abdus Salam Afridi, Zahir Shah, Amir Farzand Khan, and Tofail Anjum. Several district leaders of the party were also booked in the FIR.

In Swabi, the authorities booked Marwat, 21 local PTI leaders, and others for violation of Section 144.

On November 27, the PTI SVP was booked in a case in an Islamabad police station for holding a musical night.

The FIR alleged that Marwat spoke against the state and government during the event.

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI on November 25 announced that it will press ahead with its plan to hold a workers convention in Karak despite permission being denied by the authorities.

Marwat also issued a video message inviting workers to the convention on November 26.

In the video, Marwat says that the authorities will try to stop the convention but the workers must attend anyway.

On November 17, the former ruling party held its first workers convention in KP’s Charsadda district since the May 9 riots after which a crackdown was initiated against the party workers and leaders.

Marwat participated in the convention held at former PTI MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan’s hujra. The convention attracted hundreds of PTI workers.

The PTI senior vice president then went on to conduct several workers conventions in KP.

Later, Marwat said that former prime minister Imran Khan has given him the responsibility to organise rallies and party conventions across the country.

“You all saw how Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose when we held workers’ conventions in the province. We are now going to Punjab and it will also rise with us,” he told Munizae Jahangir on Spot Light on November 29.
