Angry Iranian mobs allegedly torched houses of Afghan immigrants living in the country after an Iranian citizen was stabbed to death during a fight, Iranian media reported.

The violent protests erupted against the Afghan immigrants after Iranian local media reported that alleged Afghan immigrants stabbed two Iranian youths during a fight on November 30 in Meybod city of Yazd province.

According to local media, Mohammad Ali Aghaei, one of the Iranian youth, was killed after he was stabbed with a knife while the other was injured.

According to Fars News Agency, Yazd’s Police Commander Abbas Ali Behdani Fard on December 1 claimed that the man suspected of killing the Iranian youth was arrested.

He said that a fight broke out between the suspects and the victims in which one youth was killed while the other was injured and was moved to the hospital where he was receiving treatment, he added.

Deputy Governor of Yazd province Ali Akbar Azizi told Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran that the people in Meybod city protested against the killing of the youth.

The protest took place after Jumma prayers where the protesters demanded the arrest of the suspect, he added.

Later, video footage emerged on social media where the houses of Afghan immigrants were allegedly torched by angry mobs after reports circulated in the local and social media that the murder suspect was an Afghan immigrant.

Commentators on X claimed that Afghan refugees were allegedly beaten during attacks by angry mobs on Afghan settlements while demanding the expulsion of Afghan refugees.
