A district and sessions court dismissed Imran Khan’s appeal in a case related to threats against a female judge.

The reserved decision announced on Wednesday by Judge Abbas Khan dismissed Khan’s appeal in the case.

The case was registered in response to Imran’s threat against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and other officials in a public rally in Islamabad park in 2022. Khan had criticised the judge for sending Shahbaz Gill on remand.

The case includes sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke, breach peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code. It also includes sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 189 (threat of injury to public servant).

Khan had later apologised in the case. He said that he had made remarks against the female judge in the heat of the moment while making a political speech.

Imran’s lawyer Salman Safdar said that the case had been made on political grounds and now that an apology had been tendered, there was no need to proceed with the case.
