The Faizabad sit-in commission has summoned former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on November 26, sources said.

The commission will record the statement of Abbasi who was prime minister at the time the sit-in took place.

It is pertinent to mention that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had remarked that the commission would be able to summon ex-army chiefs, prime ministers, and chief justices as well.

During the November 15 proceeding on the case, the federal government told the Supreme Court that it had formed an inquiry commission to probe the Faizabad sit-in.

A three-member bench led by CJP Isa resumed hearing the Faizabad sit-in case on Wednesday. The bench includes Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aminuddin Khan as well.

On November 20, the commission held its first official meeting where it was decided to seek video records from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority regarding the 2017 sit-in.

Former Inspector General of Police Akhtar Ali Shah chaired the meeting in Islamabad which sought all records related to the events surrounding the Faizabad sit-in and the inquiry reports, they added.

In another meeting held on November 24, the commission summoned former IG of Punjab Captain Arif Nawaz Khan (Retd) and former CPO Rawalpindi Israr Ahmad Abbasi on November 27.

Both officials were on duty in 2017 when TLP held its sit-in in Islamabad.
