PPP voices concerns after PM Kakar picks Ishaq Dar as leader of the house in Senate
The Pakistan Peoples Party voiced concerns on Sunday over PML-N leader Ishaq Dar being the leader of the house in the Senate, sources close to the party senators said.
They added that the PPP senators were of the view that caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar should have picked up an independent senator for the role instead of Dar.
It is pertinent to mention that caretaker Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, and Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi informed the Senate on November 20 that PM Kakar had endorsed Senator Dar as leader of the house and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla as chief whip with the status of minister of state.
Responding to a point raised by Senator Shahadat Awan during the session on October 30 regarding the status of leaders of the house and opposition, and the chief whip after the completion of the constitutional tenure of the last government, the minister clarified that as per parliamentary traditions, they would continue to perform their responsibilities.
A notification regarding the appointment of Saleem Manviwalla as chief whip had also been reissued, he added.
