The country’s top electoral authority would hear an application pertaining to the contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan against PTI Chairman Imran Khan on November 23 (Thursday).

According to the cause list, the ECP would conduct proceedings related to the indictment of the former prime minister in the case.

The case is related to Khan and his two party leaders accusations, which according to the ECP are baseless, against the polls overseer. Khan in one of his speeches had claimed that the commission was biased. He had demanded that the CEC should step down.

The polls overseer has also ordered former PTI leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry to appear in court in physical attendance.

It merits here to mention that Khan was not presented in the court on the last hearing of the case due to security concerns. Interior Secretary Aftab Durrani had submitted a written reply.

Last month, the ECP hinted at indicting the PTI chairman in the case next month.

Anwar Mansoor, counsel for Imran Khan, had argued that the question of legality of the show-cause notice should be decided first, as he contended this notice had been issued by the secretary of the commission and not the EECP.

He argued that unless this issue was resolved, the show-cause notices were illegal.
