Fazl, Nawaz agree to work together in future

JUI-F chief says both parties will proceed on matters related to election process
JUI-F leader Maulana Fazal ur Rehman media talk - Aaj News

The JUI-F and the PML-N have decided to work together in the future as well as the two parties did in the past to oust the PTI government, religiopolitical party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday.

“We have decided that in coming future as well we will intend to work together, with mutual consensus,” he told reporters in Islamabad. “We would also like to work together on the matters related to the election process, with mutual consensus and adjustment.”

He was addressing a press conference after former prime minister Nawaz called on him in the federal capital earlier in the day. Nawaz was accompanied by his daughter Maryam Nawaz and brother Shehbaz Sharif.

It was the first meeting of the PML-N supremo with the JUI-F chief after returning to the country last month. Nawaz returned to Pakistan on October 21 after ending four years of his self imposed exile.

In a rally, which the PPP believes was staged, on the same day, Nawaz offered an olive branch to political parties and stated that he did not wish for revenge.

While maintaining close ties, Fazl said that they would continue to keep contact with other parties.

“All parties should take advantage of the ‘environment of solidarity’ created in the PDM government,” he said, “and whichever party has their strength in areas, has their right, and no one should be deprived of their party right as conspiracies against the country were still going on.”

He went on to add that mutual disagreements and using strengths against each other might not be better neither for the country nor for the parties.

“We have reached a consensus on this and agreed to work together,” Fazl said and did not explicitly explain the extent of the two parties’ agreement.

When asked, he said the party does not have to have extremist views against the PPP and there should not be “bitterness” before elections.

“Our politics should not be handed over to the children,” Fazl said in response to Bilawal’s concerns about the predetermined election results.

On Bilawal’s advice for seniors to quit politics, he said the PPP chairman’s advice for his father.

He added that the difference between the thinking of seniors and children was obvious amid the political statements.

In response to his concern over ouster from Parliament, Fazl stated that his statement should be taken as “it has been said” and added that any such attempt would lead to unrest. He wondered was the country able to accept “another rigged elections”.

He was of the view that foreign ambassadors meeting with politicians was a routine practice, however, when the US envoy met political leaders it was “viewed from a different angle”.

According to Fazl, the PTI was not a political party as it was not “honest” to the country.
