A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court adjourned Nawaz Sharif’s appeals in the Avenfield and Al-Aziziya till November 27 cases on Tuesday.

The bench consisted of Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Aamer Farooq.

At the beginning of the hearing, Justice Farooq said that the court would try to ‘manage’ cases so that other cases are not affected.

The judge remarked that Nawaz’s sentence in Al-Aziziya case had been suspended but the merits of the case had not been discussed. He told Nawaz’s lawyers to stick to the Avenfield case for the time being.

He asked the parties how much time they would require to present their arguments. Nawaz’s lawyer, Amjad Parvez, said that he would require a maximum of four-to-six hours to present his arguments.

However, National Accountability Bureau’s lawyer told the court that he would only need half an hour for his arguments.

Azam Tarar told the court that Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar had already appealed successfully against their sentences in the same cases. He added that NAB had not challenged the verdict making them final.

Nawaz travelled to Islamabad from Murree on Tuesday for the hearing and arrived in court near 3 pm. The hearing was scheduled to begin at 2 pm but was delayed.

Strict security arrangements have been made at the IHC for Nawaz’s appearance. Only people holding passes issued by the registrar will be allowed into the courtroom.

A total of 15 lawyers will be allowed from nawaz’s team and 10 from the government team to attend the hearing.

Permission has also been granted to 30 journalists to cover the proceedings.
