After holding a workers’ convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has sought permission to hold a workers’ convention in Rawalpindi.

The general secretary of Insaf Lawyers Forum officially submitted the application to the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi on Monday.

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI held its first workers convention in KP’s Charsadda district on November 17 since the May 9 riots after which a crackdown was initiated against the party workers and leaders.

Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, member of PTI Chief Imran Khan’s legal team, participated in the convention held at former PTI MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan’s hujra. The convention attracted hundreds of PTI workers.

In his address, Marwat claimed that PTI is not allowed to hold a worker convention while other parties are given permission to hold rallies in public places.

In October, the PTI claimed that Lahore police raided PTI offices located in a private housing society at Ferozepur Road in the city and arrested several workers before a party convention.

The police arrested around 50 workers who were scheduled to participate in the convention, the party said.

They were preparing a party gathering scheduled for October 22 after the district administration of Lahore gave permission to the PTI. The PTI rally was set to take place at Kahna town of Lahore.
