The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cypher case.

Chief Justice of IHC, Aamer Farooq announced the reserved verdict on the November 8 hearing of bail application of Qureshi.

A special court established under the Official Secrets Act indicted PTI Chief Imran Khan Qureshi in the cypher case on October 23, with both politicians pleading not guilty.

The charge was related to a classified cable sent to Islamabad by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington early last year, which Khan is accused of making public.

On September 30, the Federal Investigation Agency submitted its charge sheet in the cypher case to the special court, claiming that Qureshi had violated the Official Secrets Act by unlawfully keeping a diplomatic cypher in his possession.

The former foreign minister is also accused of facilitating Khan while also mentioning his March 27, 2022 speech at a public rally in Islamabad.

Khan had waved a piece of paper at the rally, claiming it to be a diplomatic cypher that was evidence of an “international conspiracy” to topple his government.
