Decision taken to file FIR against underage drivers: CTO Lahore
The Lahore Traffic Police has decided to file the first information report against underage drivers barring them from getting admission in educational institutions.
“We would take a lenient way of just giving underage drivers a challan, however, we have decided to file FIR against them to protect people from losses,” Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Mustansar Feroze said in a video message.
An underage driver, who was not qualified to drive, killed six members of a family in a road accident, he said, adding that it was his responsibility to stop such accidents.
On November 11, at least six people, who belonged to the same family, were killed in a road accident in Defence Phase 7 of Lahore. The Lahore traffic police said that an underage driver was involved in the accident.
CTO Feroze said that the FIRs against underage drivers will be added to their criminal record for the rest of their lives.
“It [FIR] will bar them from applying for admission in colleges, government jobs, and visa application in case they want to go abroad,” he added.
He requested the parents to not let their underage children drive for their own and others’ safety.
