PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that PML-N is discussing bringing new judicial reform to transform the judiciary.

“We will bring reforms in the procedure to appoint judges so that the nephews and uncles of chambers are not appointed judges, but those judges are appointed who will give verdicts without pressure,” he told journalists after meeting the leaders of MQM-P at the party office in Karachi.

Rafique called it the need of the hour for all political parties to sit together and steer the country out of the challenges it is going through.

“In our meeting with the MQM-P, we have not discussed seat adjustment but only spoke about introducing reforms,” he added.

In regards to PML-N’s alliance with other parties, he said that the PML-N has spoken to JUI-F and Pir Pagara. “We are trying to form an alliance that could represent the peoples.”

MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui urged for constitutional protection of local bodies’ governments similar to federal and provincial governments.

“There should be a caretaker mayor when an elected mayor completes its term and ensure the conduct of election in 90 days,” he said.

Siddiqui called for making it mandatory to not hold general elections until the third-tier government is intact.

Without mentioning PPP, Siddiqui said that those who do not have any mandate in Karachi and urban areas of Sindh have enjoyed all powers in those areas for the past 50 years.
