A tick-borne viral disease which leads a healthy person to death is spreading in Balochistan rapidly. It has also claimed the lives of doctors, and health workers.

A breakout of the deadly virus in Balochistan sparked many questions in people’s minds: what is the Congo virus? How did it spread? What are the symptoms to diagnose it? How to prevent it?

Congo virus is a tick-borne viral disease which is mainly transferred to humans from animals.

It spreads through ticks, an insect which makes holes in the skin of animals to suck the blood. When it enters the body of any specie releases germs which becomes the reason for the virus.

Most of the time, this virus enters the human body through animals but ticks can bite humans as well which might be the cause of disease.

According to an advisory issued by the Balochistan’s department of health this virus spreads to humans through the blood.

It added that physical contact with a person infected with Congolese and carelessness in bathing the dead body of a person who died of Congo virus can also cause the spread virus.

Experts said bleeding from the nose, mouth, and other body parts are prominent symptoms of the Congo virus. It also causes platelets to drop.

An affected person enters in high fever and feels pain in the backbone, shoulders and neck.

Red spots begin to emerge on the body of the patient and it also weakens the immune system.

Experts believe that the ticks can be killed through the anti-infection spray. Those who work at the cattle or other places linked to the animal should spray their places of work.

People must wear gloves during slaughtering and washing animal meat, as it is a transmissible virus.

The virus has already claimed two lives in Balochistan and a total of 40 cases have been recorded so far.
