The brain-eating amoeba Naegleria has claimed another life in Karachi, a spokesperson of the health department said that the cumulative number of deaths rose to 11.

45-year-old Kashif Qamar, a resident of District Central was admitted to a private hospital on November 1, he has been suffering from fever and headache for three days.

Kashif died three days after he was diagnosed with Naegleria through a PCR test.

Interim Minister Health Saad Khalid Niaz directed people to follow the precautions and asked authorities to collect samples of water from entire the city and detect the quantity of chlorine in the water.

On the other hand, the health official of Sindh met with high-level officials of Water Corporation where the officials vowed to work to prevent Naegleria.

In this regard, the officials of the water board said that they were trying to provide facilities to people in accordance with the parameters set by the World Health Organization.

They added the required amount of chlorine was being added to the water while chlorine tanks were being added to all the tankers going from the hydrants.

COO Water Corporation Engineer Asadullah Khan held a high-level meeting with Director General Health Sindh Dr. Abdul Hameed Jumani at Chairman Secretariat Karsaz.
