‘Who killed Sidhu Moosewala’ a film might answer
The life of Sidhu Moosewala—an Indian singer who was shot dead last year—to be filmed as Matchbox Shots has bought the rights to the book ‘Who Killed Sidhu Moosewala’ panned by crime journalist Jupinderjit Singh.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu was an acclaimed artist of India’s Punjabi music industry left an unforgettable imprint on the industry which led the matchbox to cinematic his life.
Matchbox, a renowned production gave many hits to Indian cinema such as ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Monica O My Darling’ and the web series ‘Scoop’. However, it is not clear yet whether the life journey of the singer will be released in a movie or web series.
Meanwhile, Indian media quoted Jupinderjit Singh as saying: “The moment the book was published there was a lot of interest from various production houses. I was impressed with the kind of work Matchbox Shots is producing and I am thrilled that they have taken the rights to the book to develop it further.”
The 28-year-old was a popular musician in India and among Punjabi communities abroad, especially in Canada and Britain.
Moosewala rose to fame with catchy songs that attacked rival rappers and politicians, portraying himself as a man who fought for his community’s pride, delivered justice and gunned down enemies.
He was criticised for promoting gun culture through his music videos, in which he regularly posed with firearms.
His murder also put the spotlight on organised crime in the Indian Punjab province.
