When the news of one of Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son’s death came out, many news channels used a couple of photos to publish the news. They also carried a photo of a man with beard in a grey suit sitting on a chair.

“My name is Asim Jamil and I am not the son of Mr Maulana Tariq Jamil,” the founder and CEO of Tracking.me said in a video statement uploaded on his LinkedIn Profile.

The religious scholar’s son died due to a bullet injury in Punjab’s Khanewal on Sunday. According to the doctor, he was shot in the chest and was brought to the hospital in an injured condition. But he died during the initial treatment.

The same moniker apparently became the reason for the confusion.

In an interview with Neo News, Asim said that he was aboard a flight when the news came out. He was not able to contact his family and friends who were tensed after seeing the news.

In his clarification video, he said that the media has used his pictures as that of Maulana Tariq’s son and linked them to the unfortunate incident. According to the businessman, the confusion has affected him and his family “a lot”.

He requested all media channels to remove the picture from their content and clear the matter “as soon as possible” as it was creating a “significant” loss to him and his reputation.

Asim went on to add that the media should report every news and picture after verification. Reports said that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has taken notice of the incident.
