Qatari FM says “We will see a breakthrough soon” when asked about progress in getting more captives freed by Hamas.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says Gaza hospitals may be forced to shut down by Wednesday night due to acute fuel shortages.

Israel hits Jenin refugee camp with drones; at least three killed in an Israeli raid, bringing the number of Palestinians killed in occupied West Bank since October 7 to more than 100.

“I’m pleased to say that Qatar is becoming an essential party and stakeholder in the facilitation of humanitarian solutions,” Tzachi Hanegbi has said on X, calling Qatar’s diplomatic efforts “crucial at this time”.

• At least 5,791 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza, while more than 1,400 people were killed in Israel since October 7.

• Saed al-Halabi, a Palestinian journalist working for Al-Aqsa TV, was killed on Wednesday after an Israeli air strike hit his home in the Jabalia camp, northern Gaza Strip.

• The Turkish president confirms that he has cancelled his upcoming trip to Israel given the situation in Gaza. He has asserted that Muslim nations working in unison will help lead to peace and ceasefire while calling on world powers to pressure Israel to stop the bombardment in Gaza.

• UN chief says Hamas’s October 7 attack did not happen “in a vacuum”, with Israel demanding his resignation.

• US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asked the other members of the council to consider a US-led resolution that calls for “humanitarian pauses” to let in aid but not a full ceasefire.

• Russia, meanwhile, has put forward its own counter-resolution. A vote could take place later this week.

• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to “eliminate Hamas” and ensure it can no longer threaten Israeli civilians.

• Gaza’s health ministry claims 5,791 people have been killed in the war so far, many of them children.

• Tuesday’s toll was more than 700 people, the Hamas-run ministry said, with the UN saying it was the highest reported in a single day since the war began.

• Aid agencies report hospitals are overwhelmed, generators lack fuel and shelters are heaving under the weight of an estimated 1.4 million displaced – more than half the population.

• Since the war began a few dozen trucks with essential supplies have been allowed to cross the Egyptian border into Gaza, far fewer than necessary according to aid agencies. The Palestine Red Crescent said Tuesday it had received the fourth batch of humanitarian aid, consisting of eight trucks.

• The supplies have included medicines, food and water, but not fuel, which Israel fears could end up in Hamas’s hands.
