ECC greenlights exorbitant increase in gas tariffs: sources
The Economic Coordination Committee on Monday approved an increase of 172% in the gas tariff for domestic consumers, sources said.
During the ECC meeting, the summary forwarded by the petroleum division suggesting 200% increase in the gas tariff was approved, they added.
The government plans to collect additional Rs400 billion from the consumers. The federal cabinet will have the final say on the approval of the hike in the gas tariff.
The fixed monthly charges for the protected customers have also been raised from Rs10 to Rs400, along and a 3,900% increase in the fixed charges for the lowest gas users.
The summary was forwarded by the petroleum division. Earlier, sources said that the increase in gas prices will be applicable from October 1.
