A year has passed since the death of senior journalist Arshad Sharif who was killed in Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.

Kenyan police first said that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of “mistaken identity” but since the seasoned journalist’s post-mortem and his body’s transfer to his home country, several Kenyan news outlets have not only questioned the police’s conduct but have raised questions over the manner in which he was killed.

At the time of his murder, he was working for the Ary News.

Salman Iqbal, CEO of the platform posted on X (formally Twitter), said: “Having been in the news business for over 23 years this was a story which was the most difficult one to break, should I tell the world first or his family.”

He applauded the journalistic qualities of Sharif and prayed for him.

However, the case proceeding is underway in the Supreme Court after suo-moto was taken. The caretaker prime minister of Pakistan Anwaarul Haq Kakkar on October 17 met the Kenyan president and asserted to facilitate the joint investigation team to conclude its report.

The journalists’ organisations believe that the government has failed to arrest the killers of Sharif. The President of the Pakistan Union of Journalists has announced a protest until the arrest of Arshad Sharif’s assailants.
