Hanif Abbasi exonerated in ephedrine case
The Lahore High Court cleared Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi of all charges in the ephedrine quota case on Wednesday.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Aalia Naeem and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural announced the verdict.
Abbasi had been sentenced to spend 25 years in prison and pay Rs1 million as a fine in July 2018. The trial court said Abbasi had been found guilty of found guilty of selling 500kg ephedrine illegally to narcotics smugglers.
The verdict had been announced four days before the general election in 2018.
However, in April 2019, the Lahore High Court had suspended his sentence.
Abbasi was accused of procuring 500 kg of ephedrine for his, Gray Pharmaceutical, in 2010. but selling it to narcotics smugglers instead.
