Explosions from gas leakages continue to damage life and property in Karachi, with residents demanding an end to the use of gas cylinders in commercial activities.

Allah Noor Apartments in Maskan Chowrangi were rocked by a gas explosion on October 9 leaving many three shops destroyed. Multiple vehicles and passers by were also injured in the incident.

Police said that the explosion took place due to a build up of gas pressure and exposed electricity wires that set off a spark.

The explosion took place in a Pizza shop where gas cylinders were being used. Police arrested the owners and employees of the shop for questioning.

However, area residents say that this is not the first such incident in the area. They said that that the building has seen gas explosions thrice in the past.

The deadliest of these explosions occured in October 2020, when six apartments and multiple shops were completely destroyed. The incident had resulted in five deaths as well.

Residents say that there are numberous restaurants infront of the building which use gas cylinders. They say that they have notified officials multiple times but no action has been taken. They demanded that the use of cylinders should be banned.
