A report informed that the population of stray dogs had increased alarmingly across Karachi as over a hundred cases of dog-bite cases are being reported regularly in the metropolitan city.

According to a recent report, the number of dogs across the province is more than 28 lakh. Dr Romana Farhat, in charge of the Rabies Management Cell in Civil Hospital, told Aaj News that 150 cases were being reported in Civil Hospital daily.

The government also launched the sterilization campaign to control the population of dogs but the measures to protect citizens from dangerous dogs were not taken.

She said that most of the cases were reported in children and elderly people who have been vaccinated. She also denied the shortage of rabies vaccines.

The girl who was bitten by dogs in Chakiwara two days ago said that she was playing outside the house when the dog suddenly attacked her.

The mother of the injured girl said more than 12 children were attacked by an injured dog.

People became scared due to the large number of stray dogs in the city, they said that children were the easiest target for them and that the government should take preventive measures for them.

Edhi’s volunteer says that we try to catch the dogs and take them to a safe place, but killing the dogs is not the only solution.
