Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, has had a mixed relationship with Pakistan. In his playing days, he was seen engaging in heated arguments with Pakistani players however, after his retirement, he has been seen getting along with all the former cricketers from Pakistan during commentary or during a TV show debate on cricket.

Recently, Basit Subhani a broadcast journalist and vlogger shared Gambhir’s words on his X, (formally Twitter) in which he said: “My grandmother is from Karachi, and my grandfather is from Multan. So when I went to Pakistan, it was their wish that I visit their ancestral homes.”

Indian renowned cricketer Gautam Gambhir revealed that his grandparents belonged to Pakistan, and his visit to his ancestral home made him emotional.

The statement indicates the historical relations between the two countries, which were still strongest like a rock, but the rivalry exists only during matches and political gatherings.

The cricketer also added his memories during the tour of Pakistan he said: “It was quite an emotional tour.”

Ghambhir’s grandparents originally came from Multan to Delhi in 1947.

He said Pakistan and India were just cricketer rivalries after the match they met like a good friend, “In fact, Kamran Akmal is a very good friend of mine.”

Gambhir also emphasized to focus the positive aspects of the good ties of the future generation, saying: “The India-Pakistan rivalry has been made personal.”

“The media wants to make money, so they highlight the fights because it sells. We should show the upcoming generation not just fights but performances, whether it’s mine or Shahid Afridi’s.”
