Armed men evict Karachi University students from department
An armed group claiming ownership of a piece of land at the Architecture Department of Karachi University entered the department and evicted the students on Wednesday.
Students said that around eight armed men accompanied by women entered the department right beside the Maskan Chowrangi gate of the varsity.
The group arrived in a mini truck carrying tools to build tents as they claimed they had court orders, a varsity student said.
They had weapons and guards when they arrived and ordered us to evacuate the place while confiscating the things at the department, he added.
After being informed, the varsity administration, police, and rangers arrived at the scene.
SSP Karachi East Irfan Bahadur said that a private party had gotten a stay order from the court amid a land dispute with Karachi University.
The group attempted to station their armed men on the basis of the stay order, however, the police arrived at the scene and evicted them from the varsity premises, he added.
SSP Bahadur went on to add that a police contingent led by the SHO has been deployed inside the varsity while the stay order has been forwarded to the administration of Karachi University.
