World Cup: India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets

India chased down the 273 target set by Afghanistan as skipper Rohit Sharma hit a fiery ton in the ninth game of the World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The men in blue lost two wickets as they easily chased down the target. Sharma scored 131 runs off 84 balls, hitting five maximums and 16 boundaries.

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 55 runs helping India win inside 35 overs.

Earlier, the Aghan side managed to score 272 runs over the loss of eight wickets after opting to bat first.

Afghan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi remained the top scorer for his side as he added 80 runs to the total. Azmatullah Omarzai scored 62 runs off 69 balls to help Afghanistan reach a respectable total.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah was top of the pick as he grabbed four wickets while conceding 38 runs in his 10 overs. Allrounder Hardik Pandya took two scalps, conceding 43 runs in 7 overs.

Rohit Sharma’s Men in Blue displayed a stellar performance against Australia in their first game of the World Cup 2023 after being put in a very tricky spot by the five-time champions.

The match began at 1:30 PST in cricket-friendly weather in Delhi today.
