Questionnaire given to prime suspect in Sarah Inam murder case
The district and sessions court in Islamabad has given a questionnaire to the prime suspect, Shahnawaz Mir, in the Sarah Inam case under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code under which the judge can put a question to an accused person before concluding the trial.
District and Sessions Court judge Azam Khan said that all the suspects’ statements would be recorded on October 12.
Sarah Inam, a Canadian national, was allegedly murdered by her husband in Islamabad on September 24, 2022. The accused, Shahnawaz Amir, is the son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir. He was arrested on September 23 last year.
Shahnawaz was later sent on a judicial remand. He was indicted in the murder case on December 5, 2022.
The statements of the prosecution witnesses and the investigating officer have been recorded
The prime suspect’s lawyer Basharat Ullah completed the cross-examination of the investigating officer Habibullah.
The investigating officer said that neither he has been negligent in the investigation nor has he added any false evidence. He ruled out the impression that he did not take the stand of the accused regarding the case.
The investigation officer further ruled out that the accused Samina Shah was not found involved in the murder. He added that it was also wrong to say that he submitted the wrong challan by coming under the influence of the deceased’s heirs
The court adjourned the hearing till October 12 after seeking responses from the suspects.
Last month, Sarah’s father spoke about the case at a press conference in Islamabad.
