Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has urged for the establishment of a sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders and the United Nations resolutions.

“We stand in solidarity with Palestinians and call for an immediate end to the violence and oppression by Israeli occupation forces. A viable and sovereign State of Palestine must be established on the basis of pre-1967 borders and UN resolutions,” he wrote in a post on X.

Jilani urged the international community to intervene to bring an end to the conflict, protect civilians, and work towards a lasting peace in the Middle East.

President Arif Alvi and Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar have also called for restraint after escalating violence in the Middle East, following Israeli air strikes in Gaza in response to a barrage of more than 2,000 rockets fired from the strip.

In a post on X, erstwhile Twitter, on Saturday, President Arif Alvi said that he was “deeply disturbed” over the escalation of violence in Palestine and Israel.

The Israeli air strikes, following a barrage of rockets into Israel fired by Hamas militants, have killed at least 232 people and wounded over 1,600 with different injuries.

The “surprise attack” by Hamas killed at least 200 people.

“There should be maximum restraint to prevent further bloodshed and loss of human lives. The situation calls for an immediate ceasefire as the hostility and confrontation between Palestine and Israel will further increase the sufferings of the people,” he said.

Alvi urged the international community to play an active role to prevent both sides from further escalating the conflict and work for a long overdue peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and international law.

Moreover, Kakar wrote on X that he was heartbroken by the escalating violence in the Middle East, which underscores the urgent need to address the Palestine question.

“We urge restraint and protection of civilians. Enduring peace in the Middle East lies in a two-state solution with a viable, contiguous, sovereign State of Palestine, founded on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif at its heart,” said Kakar.

Earlier, the Foreign Office urged the international community to come together for cessation of hostilities, and protection of civilians after fresh escalations erupted between Israel and Palestine.

“We call on the international community to come together for cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, and for a lasting peace in the Middle East,” the FO said in a statement.

“We are closely monitoring the unfolding situation in the Middle East and the eruption of hostilities between Israel and Palestinians. We are concerned about the human cost of the escalating situation,” said the FO.

Pakistan has advocated for a two-state solution as the key to enduring peace in the Middle East, with a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian question anchored in international law and in line with relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions.

“A viable, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine should be established on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
