Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq said that he would allow any concessions possible to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a case regarding his conditions in jail.

The court took up a petition filed by Khan’s wife Bushra Begum on Thursday which has asked for him to be provided more facilities in court including home cooked food. She had expressed a fear that Khan could be poisoned in jail.

Lawyer Latif Khosa appeared on behalf of Bushra Begum and told the court that Imran Khan’s jail cell does not even have enough space to offer prayers.

Khosa also said that it was part of the country’s history that whoever had served as president or prime minister had gone to jail later on. He requested the court to allow Imran to eat food made in his home.

CJ Farooq replied that he would order any concessions that the law could allow. He then issued notices to the interior ministry and jail officials and adjourned the hearing till next week.

Khan was recently moved to Adiala Jail from Attock Jail where he had been kept since his arrest on August 5. He is imprisoned in the cipher case registered under the Official Secrets Act.
