PM Kakar wishes luck to Pakistan’s first female astronaut
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has wished success to Namira Salim, who is set to become Pakistan’s first Pakistan’s first female space tourist.
“Good Luck Namira Salim. I wish you success when you’re ready to make history on 06 October by becoming the 1st [Pakistan] woman to travel to space in the #Galactic04,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
PM Kakar went on to add that Pakistani women are making the whole nation proud by proving their mettle as trailblasers in multiple fields.
On October 5, Namira Salim will go sub-orbital on a Virgin Galactic flight that she purchased as one of the pioneering space tourists 17 years ago.
She will become the first female United Arab Emirates resident and Pakistan’s first female space tourist.
In 2006, the government of Pakistan officially recognised Namira as the first Pakistani astronaut. The announcement was followed by her appointment as the Honorary Ambassador of Tourism for Pakistan in 2007 by the Ministry of Tourism.
The government of Pakistan has honoured her with the prestigious ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiaz’ (Medal of Excellence) in 2011.
