Officials tell court dedicated water pipeline necessary for DHA in Karachi
The managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has said that only a dedicated supply line for DHA, Karachi could ensure the provision of uninterrupted water supply to the area.
The managing director of KWSC and officials from Cantonment Board Clifton appeared before the Sindh High Court in a case pertaining to the shortage of water supply to DHA, and Clifton Karachi.
During the proceedings, Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi remarked that several mafias are working in the area including tanker and land mafias. He inquired why the authorities failed to address the issue despite repeated orders from the court.
The managing director of KWSC said that only a dedicated supply line for the DHA residents could ensure the provision of uninterrupted water supply to the area, for which the relevant departments will need to work together with the KWSC.
He went on to add that increasing the water supply from the Pipri pumping station could also help in providing water to the residents.
The petitioner’s lawyer said that the CBC was not providing water bowsers to the residents despite court orders, on which CBC’s lawyer said that the board has documentary evidence of supplying water through bowsers to the residents.
Sindh High Court sought suggestions from parties to make arrangements for the provision of water to DHA and Clifton areas of Karachi and adjourned the hearing till October 24.
